Apple works to tackle spam events filling iPhone calendars
Apple engineers are urgently working to fix a loophole in its iPhone software which has seen thousands of users’ calendars filled with fake spam events. In recent weeks, iPhone users have reported phony sale events such as $19.99 Ray-Ban Sunglasses and 50% off Ugg boots appearing without warning in their calendars – often with loud notifications when the ‘event’ is due to begin. Spammers have been exploiting what was intended as a convenience feature, wherein the iCal app automatically detects when the user has been invited to a meeting and schedules it into the calendar.
