Samsung has had a very good year. Its current Galaxy S8 is, without doubt, the best smartphone of 2017 and the competition will struggle to beat it when the tech gongs get dished out later this year. Samsung is also likely to reveal its new Note 8 device next month which appears to have all the hallmarks of an award-winning smartphone. However, before the Korean tech giant begins clearing space in its trophy cabinet there may be one major rival who could throw a seriously big spanner in the works.
