Android gains leading market share at iOS’ expense in the past quarter
The thing is Android is free for anyone to take and use on any device they want. However if you want Google’s play store, apps, and services, then you have to pay to use those. Why do think a few countries have already taken Android and made their own devices using Android. Look at India has a few homegrown smartphone OEMs using Android. Russia has a couple of smartphone OEMs as well. Brazil is looking at a homegrown OEMs now. China has a number of OEMs using Android. Then there is Amazon and a few others using Android.
