Apple serious about iPhone X’s future, says all iOS app updates must be compatible

CALIFORNIA: Apple is pretty serious about the future of its iPhone X. The company has announced that starting July 2018, all iOS app updates must be compatible with the notch-based iPhone X. Apple announced this on its developer page, calling on the app makers to ensure their apps are updated and built with the iOS 11 SDK, supporting the Super Retina display of iPhone X, Cnet reports. With all new iOS apps compatible with the iPhone X, it will result in a larger pool of apps which support the top notch on the smartphone.

New iPhone XL looks set to get this huge new feature

Apple appears to be working on a new version of the iPhone X, potentially dubbed iPhone XL, that will feature a 6.5-inch OLED screen complete with top notch. Twitter may add encrypted direct messages on Android

Twitter has started building an encrypted direct messaging feature in its Android app, according to a computer science student who dug through the code. Jane Manchun Wong looked through Twitter’s Android app code and saw the feature. Other apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal already provide users with encrypted means of communicating. If Twitter added secret conversations, its direct messages could serve as a convenient alternative to secure, off-platform rivals. Since the feature was found in the app’s unreleased code, it’s unknown when, if ever, the feature will actually go live.

‘Black dot of death’ Unicode bug crashes iOS Messages app

Another Unicode text bug has been discovered in iOS, which will repeatedly crash Apple’s Messages app by overloading its memory. This isn’t the first time that iOS have suffered the affects of malicious Unicode bugs. Earlier this year, a similar text message did the rounds, containing a single character in the Indian language character set of Telegu. This message crashed iPhones, as well as blocking access to the Messages, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Outlook for iOS and Gmail iOS apps. Back in 2015, Apple also suffered from the so-called “Unicode of Death” security exploit in iMessages.
