Microsoft’s Android app emulation not happening anytime soon

Windows Central is now hearing from multiple sources that Project Astoria is on hold indefinitely, and maybe even shelved completely. Although Microsoft is not publicly – even privately – stating Astoria is cancelled, they are not openly talking about it anymore, or even privately discussing it with developers. One source has told us that “the Android app porting is not going as planned.” The interpretation by others familiar with the matter is that Astoria is not happening anytime soon and Microsoft has yet to find a way to announce the news publicly.

Top iOS news of the week: Firefox, Apple threatening Intel, iWorks updated

Apple CEO Tim Cook fanned the fire on the “iPad is good enough” debate with a recent admission that he doesn’t use a laptop when travelling. He stated that he now travels with an iPad Pro and iPhone, leaving the MacBook behind. He probably has an Apple Watch along, too. After a preview period in New Zealand, the Firefox app is now available everywhere on iOS. The free browser has many features that long-time Firefox users have enjoyed. Note that the iOS version of Firefox does not use the Gecko rendering engine as Apple insists browsers use its WebKit engine.

iOS9にiOSのTwitterアプリの問題かもしれませんが、他にどこに報告していなかったのですが、モバイルアプリケーションのバグを報告する場所を見つけることができません。私はデスクトップまたはAndroidで再現できなかった。

Tweet Web Intent / Twitter app for iOS conflicts

I think this could be an issue with the Twitter app for iOS in iOS 9, but I’m not sure where else to report it. I can’t seem to find a place to report bugs for the mobile apps. I couldn’t reproduce on desktop or on Android. I also figured it would be good for other developers to know. It seems that 2 small changes were made to the Twitter app recently, most likely with the switch to iOS 9. These 2 changes break the way web intents work. 1) You can use to indicate spaces in tweet text anymore. Instead, you have to use .

The edit preview screen in the iOS app only shows the top inch of the post’s text

After editing a post in the iOS app, the final preview window shows only about an inch of text below the title, rather than the complete post. This began when I downloaded the iOS app version 1.4.0.243, so I’m wondering if it’s a bug. I’m using an iPad 2 running iOS 9.1. It happens on questions and answers, with and without pictures, and on a variety of SE sites. The top row of my pictures show the original question, then the edit screen after editing. Below that on the left is the edit preview, with the finished version after submission next to it. Click on them for full-screen views.

Periscope’s skip-ahead update hits mobile, with 3D Touch on iOS

Periscope’s latest update hit the web late last week, and today it’s live across Android and iOS devices, with some special twists. Mobile users can now fast-forward and rewind through replays, as promised. The app’s Global Map has a few more functions, as follows: Zoom in on a location and the map will show live broadcasts (red dots) and replays (blue dots) from the past 24 hours.

Apple Music beta launches on Android

Apple Music introduced a beta version for archrival Android users on Tuesday, according to an app update in Google Play. Apple’s service streams songs over Internet connections. Apple Music is now available for Android

Apple did some epic trolling earlier this autumn with its release of the Move to iOS app for Android, which made it easy to move your digital life to an iPhone or iPad, but this is very different: Apple Music is a proper Android app you might actually want to use. And it’s available now on the Play Store. Apple just pressed the button earlier this evening, sending its streaming music app onto the rival smartphone platform’s storefront.

No sync options after initial setup iOS 9.1 – 1Pass 6.1

Since the latest version of iOS and one password. One password no longer has any option to change the sync system. When I open settings: sync: all that shows is the number of items to sync. There is no option for sync service, sync now or last sync information. In fact after updating to 1P 6.1 my sync was switched from Dropbox to iCloud, an option I never use, so my changes on other devices were not being synced i solved that problem by deleting 1Password, reinstalling, and was then able to choose a sync method.

Metrotube update fixes problem with pinned playlists

One disadvantage to owning a Windows Phone is the lack of an official YouTube client. Google is said to be working on a YouTube app for Windows 10 Mobile . Until that becomes a reality, Windows Phone users can rely on third party apps to get their YouTube fix. One such app is, which has been around since 2011 when LazyTube had a major face-lift Metrotube has just pushed out an update to its app, to version 4.6.9. The update fixes problems that users were having in trying to pin a playlist.
