Motorola Publishes Android Marshmallow Kernel Source Code For The 2014 Moto G 4G

For consumers, there’s no update quite like the one that delivers a new version of Android to their device. But for developers, that’s just the beginning. App makers and custom ROM producers can’t get their hands dirty until the source code behind that over-the-air update hits the web as well. Certain Android manufacturers are pretty consistent about releasing kernel source code. Motorola is one of them. Its latest addition is the open source code for Android Marshmallow running on the 2nd generation Moto G 4G LTE, codenamed Thea.

Alcatel Fierce XL with Windows 10 is now available at T-Mobile

Exactly as rumored, T-Mobile has made the Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL with Windows available for purchase today. The phone didn’t even get an announcement press release, but if you’re interested in picking one up you can already do so from the magenta carrier’s website. This version of the Fierce XL runs Windows 10 Mobile, being indeed the first Alcatel device to do so. It can be yours for $139.99 upfront. The Insider Hub app will return soon for Windows 10 Mobile

If you are signed up to get preview builds for Windows 10 Mobile on the Windows Insider program, you should soon see a return of the Insider Hub app. The return was promised by Windows Insider head Gabriel Aul in a Twitter post: The Insider Hub has been available for Windows 10 PC and tablet users on the Insider Program for some time, but the app for Windows 10 Mobile has not been available for a number of months.

Fhotoroom rewritten for Windows 10 Mobile with Continuum support and more

Popular photo editing app Fhotoroom has snagged a pretty hefty update, namely bringing official support for Windows 10 Mobile. Along with being completely rewritten for Windows 10 Mobile, the app now has beta support for Continuum, and includes a number of tweaks across the board. Here’s the official take on what’s new: As noted in the changelog, this update is considered to be a beta, so you may run into some bugs here and there as you use the app. Still, it’s good to see Fhotoroom join its desktop counterpart, which received its Windows 10 update in late 2015.

The mobile port includes “high-definition movies and character models,” autosave, achievements and a collection of “game boosters” that let you essentially cheat your way through the game. You can speed up time, cut out random encounters or hit every enemy for 9,999 damage. The idea of the boosters is to make the game, which in its original incarnation involved well over a full day’s worth of grinding, more playable for casual gamers.

Outlook Mail and Calendar snags small update on PC and mobile

Outlook Mail and Calendar has received another modest update on both Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10. There’s no new changelog attached to this latest version, and we haven’t spotted any immediately obvious changes after installing the update. Still, it’s likely that the latest version simply brings some more bug fixes and performance improvements, possibly related to the release of the latest PC build. In case you’re interested in version numbers, the latest update pushes Outlook Mail and Calendar up from version 17.6568.16822.0 to 17.6568.16902.0, a relatively small bump.

Android creator Andy Rubin is making a free dashcam

There’s been a lot of speculation about what Android inventor and ex-Googler Andy Rubin has been up to with his startup, Playground Global. Is he making a phone? Well, no… but what he is doing could still grab your attention. Rubin tells Wired that his company is making a dashcam with a unique business model: you’ll get the hardware for free, but you have to hand over the camera’s data in return. It’s not clear why Playground wants to make that bargain, although one possibility is that it’ll create a visual map of streets around the world.

AT&T LG G4 is now receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow update

So far, we’ve seen the LG G4 getting updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow in South Korea, Europe, and Canada. Additionally, units sold by Sprint, US Cellular, and T-Mobile have already received their taste of Google’s latest treat. And now it’s time for the G4 sold by AT&T to be in the exact same position. The over-the-air rollout is apparently under way as you read this, so if you have a G4 purchased from AT&T you might receive that coveted update notification at any time. If this hasn’t happened yet but you’re impatient, you can always manually check by using the appropriate menu in Settings.
