WhatsApp will continue to support Android 2.3 until 2020

As a side effect of the version fragmentation that Android suffers from, even the latest apps tend to support Android versions a few years old. For example, most of Google’s apps nowadays have a minimum requirement of Android 4.1 or 4.2. If you’re still stuck on 2.3 Gingerbread, at least you’ll get to keep using WhatsApp. Last year, WhatsApp said it was ending support for a variety of older mobile operating systems, like iOS 6 and Android 2.2 (and below). The blog post announcing this change has been updated, with changed dates for some versions. Now WhatsApp says that Android 2.3.

確かに、昨年2月、WhatsAppは2016年末までに「アンドロイド2.1」や「Android」2.2(および、いくつかの他の非Androidプラットフォーム)の支援を中止するとのことです。でも、同じウェブページをざっと見たところ、この「Androidバージョン2.3.7以前」2020年2月1日までサービスを利用できるようになることを明らかにした。

ただし、すべての最新かつ最高のWhatsAppの機能を利用できない可能性があることを念頭に置いて、企業は積極的にこれらのプラットフォーム用の開発をしていないという。

WhatsApp to continue supporting older Android versions till 2020

Just yesterday, we told you that WhatsApp’s support for the BlackBerry platform has been extended till the end of this year. Now it has come to light that the Facebook-owned company’s website has been updated, stating that the app will continue to support older Android versions till 2020. If you recall, back in February last year, WhatsApp said they’ll stop supporting Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 (and some other, non-Android platforms) by the end of 2016. But a quick look at the same webpage now reveals that users will be able to use the service on “Android versions 2.3.

Local residents are invited to attend a free class on “iPhone & iPad Essentials for Seniors,” from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Best Western Palm Court Hotel, 234 D St. in Davis. The instructors are Jay Woods and Jacci O’Connor, tech nerds and fellow seniors who volunteer regularly at the Davis and Woodland senior centers. The class will cover the basics of using iPhones and iPads, Apple’s mobile devices. Topics include basic hand gestures, features that enhance vision and hearing, going online and basic security/privacy features.

The Size of iPhone’s Top Apps Has Increased by 1000 Percent in Four Years

According to Sensor Tower’s analysis of App Intelligence, the total space required by the top 10 most installed U.S. iPhone apps has grown from 164 MB in May 2013 to about 1.8 GB last month, an 11× or approximately 1,000 percent increase in just four years. In the following report, we delve deeper into which apps have grown the most. Apple really needs to do something about this. It’s not just that these apps are too big, but some of them issue software updates every week (or even more frequently). It’s a huge waste of bandwidth, time, and on-device storage space.
